It all began with Demetrio Mauro The sixty-year history of Caffè Mauro began with the tireless work ethic of Mr Demetrio Mauro. Born in 1905 in Reggio Calabria, he was only 10 years old when he started working as a ship's boy on the Strait of Messina, while dreaming of starting his own business. In 1930, after many sacrifices, he bought his first boat, the "Salvatore Padre". In 1936 , he successfully moved his business to Africa, to what were then Italian colonies, and founded a travel agency. The events of World War II forced him to start over, and his new adventure began with a new passion: coffee.
Industrial activity The Mauro family was in Milan in 1946 to try to start a new coffee roasting business. But homesickness brought them back to Calabria. In November 1949, Demetrio Mauro founded Caffè Mauro company with a small coffee roasting machine in an old warehouse on Via Florio, near the port of Reggio Calabria. With his dedication and long-term vision, Demetrio Mauro managed to achieve a long series of successes.
The new Caffè Mauro In June 2008, Mauro Demetrio S.p.A was acquired by Independent Investments, an investment company founded by Fabrizio Capua. The new management team now aims to strengthen its position in the Italian market and increase the company's distribution in international markets. With more than 65 years of experience and a presence in over 35 countries, Caffè Mauro has set itself a new goal: to strengthen its position in foreign markets.
The flavours of a passion Caffè Mauro has developed a range of premium blends to guarantee the enjoyment of this traditional daily ritual for the food and catering industry. There are blends to suit all tastes, from 100% Coffea Arabica to blends specially designed for domestic espresso machines.
The perfect espresso The company has always strived for quality and new ways to experience and interpret coffee culture. That is why they have developed SEM, Sistema Espresso Mauro. A new system that guarantees a perfect espresso every time. Modern tradition at Caffè Mauro In 1997, Caffè Mauro inaugurated its latest fully automated production facility. For the management team at Caffè Mauro, research into advanced production technology has always gone hand in hand with achieving premium product quality. They decided to return to the "slow roasting method" to guarantee customers the best quality. What makes Caffè Mauro's flavour so special is its respect for natural roasting times. Unlike many other companies, Caffè Mauro uses a "slow" method to roast its beans, giving them the unique flavour and aroma that characterises a good espresso coffee.
